Facebook Linked to rise in Syphilis Cases

Facebook is in the limelight yet again, only this time for all the wrong reasons. According to health experts, the popular social networking site has led to resurgence in the sexually transmitted disease 'syphilis'.

A report claims the virus has increased fourfold in those areas of Britain where Facebook is most popular. The reason cited is Facebook has thrown open a new channel for meeting multiple partners for casula sexual encounters.

According to Peter kelly, director of public health in Teesside, Britain, a link has been found between social networking sites and the rise in Syphilis cases, especially among young women. Syphilis is a critical disease and people having unprotected sex with casual partners are at high risk.

A spokesperson  for Facebook said, "Users should take precautions and be careful when meeting up with anyone they have met online."
